If You Think You Can’t – You’re Right
I despise the word “can’t”. It is the most depressing, self defeating word, and I hear it way too much.
When you use the word “can’t”, you are not only setting yourself up to fail, but you are practically assuring it.
I mean really, what is the point of telling yourself over and over – “I can’t do ____________”?
I think it’s an ego thing. After all if I don’t try, I won’t (can’t) fail. I mean who wants to be a failure?
Sometimes I wonder which takes more effort – Thinking of yet another excuse why something isn’t possible, or scraping myself off the ground and attacking it again.
Now maybe you are saying to yourself – “But I really can’t do that chinup you asked me to, I am not physically able”.
And I ask in return “Does that mean you never will be able to do it? Are you willing to put in the effort to make it happen?” Because if you have two arms (or even one) it can happen!
That’s just one example – The principle applies to training, eating, working, anything!
And I’m not talking about any secret, or laws, or anything else.
It is just a fact – make it happen in your mind first, then take daily action.
I leave you with a poem, one of my favorite pieces of literary art. Don’t just read it – Live It!
You Can if You Think You Can!
If you think you are beaten, you are.
If you think you dare not, you don’t.
If you like to win, but you think you can’t,
It is almost certain you won’t.
If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost,
For out in the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow’s will.
It’s all in the state of mind.
If you think you are outclassed, you are.
You’ve got to think high to rise.
You’ve got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.
Life’s battles don’t always go
To the stronger or faster man.
But sooner or later the man who wins,
Is the man who thinks he can.
