Did you know that the Drs. Kathleen Farfield and Robert Fletcher of Harvard Medical School, writing for the Journal of American Medical Association in June 2002, wrote that all adults should take a multivitamin daily, regardless of the state of our health or our age? They write “insufficient vitamin intake is apparently a cause of chronic diseases”, and review studies on vitamins and disease that indicate insufficient vitamin intake increases risk in a wide array of chronic disease, including cardiovascular disease and certain cancers.
Comment: Surveys show that the majority of us do not eat the even the minimum servings of fruit and vegetables recommended in government guidelines. It is no longer a question, we need daily supplementation to maintain health. Remember it is always a good idea to talk to a doctor well versed in nutrition about your specific situation before taking supplements.
